May 10, 1775, The Second Continental Congress meets in Philadelphia.
July 1-4, 1776, Congress debates and revises the Declaration of Independence.
September 15, 1781, the French fleet drove the British naval force from the Chesapeake Bay.
The American War of Independence raged from April 1775 to September 1783.

Who was Jesse Selby's father? John Selby--update coming

Jesse Selby was likely born about 1780 in Prince George's County, Maryland, but who were his parents? Was it Joseph Selby, born in 1745 in Prince George's County, Maryland? If so, who was Jesse's mother? Was it one of Joseph's brothers, nephews, or cousins?

Our first determination of linage did not fit the birth and death records that we've located, and sources from the original search were not recorded (or at least not located). Joseph, son of William Selby Jr. who was son of William Selby Sr., lived from 1718 to 1752--could not have fathered Jesse born in 1780. Was there another generation that we missed? Are dates and ages wrong? If so, which ones?

Until we locate source records, such as a will from Jesse's father, land records, or the family bible showing parentage, we have removed the potential earlier ancestors previously listed on this website. Their links to our family are now just speculation and not verified.

We have hit a roadblock in our ancestral research of our branch of the Selby tree. When we work our way past it, I will happily add our newly documented ancestors to this website. All help in working around the roadblock is welcome. Just send me an email.
